BPM Companion (the "app") builds playlists from the music files on your device by detecting each track's tempo and matching it to your chosen cadence.
The app collects no data, shares no data, and has no internet access. There are no accounts, no ads, no analytics, and no tracking of any kind.
You choose which folders or files the app can see, using Android's file picker (Storage Access Framework). The app reads those files only to play them and to detect their tempo. Analysis happens entirely on your device; audio and results are never uploaded anywhere. Detected tempos are cached in the app's private storage on your device and are deleted when you uninstall the app.
The optional "measure my steps" feature uses your phone's step detector (the ACTIVITY_RECOGNITION permission) to estimate your cadence while you hold the button. Readings are processed in the moment, on your device, and are never stored or transmitted.
If you use Android's device backup, Android may include the app's settings and tempo cache in your Google-account backup, like any other app data. That backup belongs to your Google account; the developer has no access to it.
This site runs no analytics and sets no tracking cookies. The only cookie
it may set is a functional one (lang_choice), and only if you pick a language
from the switcher: it remembers that choice — storing just a language code,
no personal data — so later visits keep the language you chose. If you send us feedback by
email, or include your email address in the feedback form, we store that
address solely to reply to you, and delete it once the conversation is
done. Write to the same address to be removed at any time.
When the site is served by Netlify, the feedback form is processed and its submissions (your message, your email address if you provided one, and the page language) are stored by Netlify on our behalf; we export and delete them on the same terms as emailed feedback. Messages sent without an email address are simply read and then deleted.
If a future version ever changes any of the above (for example, by adding an online feature), this policy and the Play listing's Data safety section will be updated first. Questions: ask@bpmcompanion.app.
